Simon & Schuster to Publish “Marriage Vacation” The Highly Anticipated Novel From TV Land’s Hit TV Show Younger

NEW YORK, March 15 – In the fourth season of Younger, Empirical Press announced the publication of Marriage Vacation, and Pauline Turner Brooks’s debut novel quickly became the hottest read in town. Now, this story of a woman who impulsively leaves her book publisher husband and two young daughters in order to find herself, will be available to readers everywhere, published by Simon & Schuster.

Younger, the hit TV Land series created and produced by Darren Star, follows the story of Liza Miller, a 40 year-old woman who must find a way to support herself and her college-aged daughter after divorce leaves her professionally and emotionally stagnant. She attempts to return to publishing after a 15-year stint being a stay at home mom, but after that proves difficult, she pretends to be 26 and starts over from the bottom as an assistant at Empirical Press. Season four saw the introduction of Pauline Turner Brooks, the estranged wife of Empirical publisher and love interest to Liza, Charles Brooks; Pauline approaches Liza for advice on her debut novel, Marriage Vacation. When Empirical signs the book, a roman a clef about Pauline and Charles’s marriage, the book garners massive interest with readers and publishing insiders, all clamoring for a copy.

Now, Pauline’s highly anticipated MARRIAGE VACATION (Simon & Schuster; 6/2/18; $26.00) is becoming a reality. Pauline’s book stars Kate Carmichael, who appears to have the perfect life: two adorable daughters, a pre-war townhouse on the Upper East Side, and a husband who runs one of the most successful publishing companies in New York. But when Kate attends the wedding of her two oldest friends and reconnects with successful former classmates, she suddenly sees her life in a different light: the career she didn’t pursue, the dreams she’s locked away, the empty veneer of her privilege. When the wedding weekend ends, instead of heading home to her husband and family, Kate gets on a plane and flies halfway around the world. She claims it will just be a short trip to clear her head but her adventure, like her life, doesn’t go as planned.

Younger creator Darren Star said: “Marriage Vacation has everything you want in a novel—fascinating characters, drama, secrets, emotional reckonings, and far flung adventure. If you love Younger, you’ll love this book. If you’ve never watched an episode of Younger (you should change that), you’ll still love this book.”

Simon & Schuster Senior Editor Christine Pride added, “Publishing Marriage Vacation is an incredibly exciting and dynamic cross-media opportunity. As a fan of the show myself, it’s been fun to collaborate on a project out of the Younger universe, and as an editor, it’s a thrill to deliver a book that I know will appeal to both fellow fans of the show and anyone who is looking for a smart beach read this summer.”
