Introducing Boynton Bookworks
A NEW SIMON & SCHUSTER IMPRINT DEDICATED ENTIRELY TO BOTH NEW AND CLASSIC WORKS BY LEGENDARY CHILDREN’S AUTHOR SANDRA BOYNTON DEBUTING IN FALL 2022
New York, NY, January 13 — Jon Anderson, President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, announced today the creation of Boynton Bookworks—a new imprint devoted to the past and future works of beloved American cartoonist, children’s author, and Platinum-selling songwriter/producer, Sandra Boynton. The imprint will bring Boynton’s considerable backlist under one roof for the first time ever.
“Sandy’s work is deceptively simple and utterly original,” says Jon Anderson. “Boynton Bookworks will be a showcase for her singular genius (she’ll hate my using that word, but it’s true!) and is the obvious next step in her remarkable career.”
Joining Boynton Bookworks are two seasoned publishing professionals who will oversee all aspects of the new imprint. Kelli Chipponeri (formerly of Chronicle Books) has come on board as Publishing Director, and Mike Vago (recently of Workman Publishing) as Design Director. Jeffrey Salane, Vice President and Editorial Director of Little Simon, will continue as Boynton’s editor. “And I’ll be in the Picard role,” says Boynton with a laugh. “I get to set an improbable course and say ‘Make it So.’ Then the supremely competent crew takes it from there. I’m so stunned and grateful that Jon is giving me this wild opportunity.”
Along with becoming the new home for Boynton’s entire Little Simon backlist, Boynton Bookworks will publish its inaugural list in Fall 2022. It will include two new board books—Pookie’s Thanksgiving and Moo, Baa, Fa La La La La!—and a deluxe picture book edition of Boynton’s much-loved classic Hippos Go Berserk!, first published in 1977 and in print ever since. Boynton has completely redrawn and redesigned Hippos Go Berserk! for its center-stage position in the Boynton Bookworks launch. In addition, beginning in Fall 2022, the new imprint will welcome ALL of Boynton’s previously published titles, including brand new editions of twenty-two beloved Boynton books and six renowned songbook/CDs including such multi-million-copy bestsellers as Barnyard Dance!, Snuggle Puppy!, Belly Button Book!, Birthday Monsters!, and Philadelphia Chickens.
Sandra Boynton is a beloved American cartoonist, children’s author, songwriter, and short film director. Her renowned books include The Going to Bed Book, Barnyard Dance!, Snuggle Puppy!, and Spooky Pookie; and for grownups, CHOCOLATE: The Consuming Passion and Christmastime. Boynton has also written and produced six albums of unconventional children’s music, which include performances by Stanley Tucci, Brian Wilson, Brad Paisley, Kacey Musgraves, B. B. King, Blues Traveler, Alison Krauss, Meryl Streep, Patti LuPone, and “Weird Al” Yankovic (in a duet with Kate Winslet.) Three of Boynton’s albums have been certified Gold, and Philadelphia Chickens, nominated for a Grammy, has gone Platinum. Boynton received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Cartoonists Society.
