Jonathan Jao to Join Simon & Schuster as Vice President and Editorial Director

AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM PRISCILLA PAINTON:

In our ongoing efforts to acquire and publish the very best nonfiction, I am delighted to announce that Jonathan Jao will be re-joining Simon & Schuster as Vice President and Editorial Director, reporting to me.

Jonathan has distinguished himself as an outstanding editor at three publishing companies. He began his career as a Simon & Schuster summer intern in 1999, working for Gypsy da Silva in the copyediting department. He was hired the following year as an editorial assistant to Alice Mayhew and worked for Alice until 2002, at which point he joined Random House, where he spent the next 12 years, working his way up to Senior Editor. In 2014, he joined Harper as a Vice-President, Executive Editor.

At Harper, Jonathan has acquired New York Times bestselling books by Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta, Tim Alberta, Ronald Brownstein, Amy Chozick, H.R. McMaster, Thomas E. Ricks, and Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, among others.

Over the course of 23 years in publishing, Jonathan has also worked with such writers as former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Nobel Prize Winner Maria Ressa, David Petraeus, Andrew Roberts, Max Hastings, Mark Lilla, John Julius Norwich, Robert D. Kaplan, Robert K. Massie, Douglas Brinkley, Yuval Harari, Gabriel Sherman, J.D. Vance, David Thomson, and Richard Norton Smith.

Jonathan’s official return date will be Monday, October 2 and I hope you will join me in welcoming him then.
