Julia Cheiffetz to Join Atria Publishing Group as Vice President, Publisher of New Imprint

NEW YORK, June 18– Julia Cheiffetz will join the Atria Publishing Group, a division of Simon & Schuster, where she will be Vice President and Publisher of a yet-to-be-named imprint, effective today. The news of Ms. Cheiffetz’s appointment and the creation of the new imprint were announced by Libby McGuire, Senior Vice President & Publisher, Atria Books.

The imprint will draw on Ms. Cheiffetz’s unique strengths as an editor and her passion for publishing books that address issues of social import. She began her publishing career at the Random House Publishing Group in 2002. Her first acquisition was Sin in the Second City by Karen Abbott, which became a New York Times bestseller. In 2008, she moved to Harper Studio, where she acquired and edited several New York Times bestsellers, including Devil in the Grove by Gilbert King, which won the Pulitzer Prize, 5TH  Avenue 5 AM by Sam Wasson and The Dressmaker of Khair Khana by Gayle Lemmon.  From 2011 to 2014, she was an Editorial Director at Amazon and oversaw the creation of Little A, Amazon’s literary imprint and Day One, its literary magazine. Cheiffetz returned to Harper in 2014 as an Executive Editor at the Dey Street imprint. There she has acquired and published numerous national bestsellers, such as Unbelievable by Katy Tur and Notorious RBG by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik, Forward by Abby Wambach, Sex Object by Jessica Valenti and The Woman Who Smashed Codes by Jason Fagone.   Ms. Cheiffetz has also worked with such authors as Harold Bloom, Billy Collins, Greg Graffin, Stanley Fish, Estelle Friedman and Jose Antonio Vargas.
