Kim Shannon Named Senior Vice President, Sales, Simon & Schuster

NEW YORK, July 31—Simon & Schuster today announced that Kim Shannon has been named Senior Vice President, Sales. The announcement was made by Jonathan Karp, President and CEO of Simon & Schuster.

She joins Simon & Schuster from Penguin Random House, where she has been since 2008, and most recently held the role of Executive Vice President, Adult Retail & Education Sales and Director of Sales Strategy, Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. While at Penguin Random House, Ms. Shannon achieved sales growth across all Penguin Random House adult titles and imprints, oversaw all key national account customers for distribution clients, developed sales plans and growth strategies for the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, and increased revenue capture in higher education through increased classroom adoptions of PRH titles.

Ms. Shannon, who will also be a member of the Simon & Schuster Executive Board, will report to Dennis Eulau, Executive Vice President, Chief Operations Officer. At Simon & Schuster she will be responsible for sales in all channels including national accounts, digital and online sales, independents, mass merchants, wholesalers, special markets, and educational sales.

Ms. Shannon’s move to Simon & Schuster will be a return to the company, as she held the position of Director, National Accounts, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing from 2007-2008. Prior to that, she held positions at Workman Publishing Company and Random House.

“The leader of our Sales division must possess a strong sense of the current marketplace, where it is headed, and how best to allocate our resources to meet its demands; an unceasing dedication to our mission on behalf of our authors; the ability to balance the concerns of our publishers with the needs of our bookselling customers; and a highly attuned radar for the latest trends amidst rapidly changing reading tastes,” said Jonathan Karp. “Kim exceeds these high expectations and brings a wealth of experience in sales and management to her new role.

“I know she will be the leader we need: a strong advocate for our authors and books, and a superb manager and leader who can take the Sales division forward in this exciting time in publishing.”

“I’m thrilled to be rejoining Simon & Schuster at such an exciting time,” said Kim Shannon. “I look forward to working with the talented sales and publishing teams to accelerate growth and reach new readers in our rapidly changing marketplace.”

Ms. Shannon holds a degree in Government and History from the University of Notre Dame and lives on Long Island with her family. Her first day at Simon & Schuster will be Tuesday, September 3.
