Marysue Rucci Named the New Publisher of Scribner

NEW YORK, January 30, 2025—Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp announced today that Marysue Rucci will become the new Publisher of Scribner, effective February 24th, 2025. As announced in October 2024, current Scribner Publisher Nan Graham will transition to a new role within the imprint, where she will remain as the editor of some of Scribner’s most acclaimed authors and will continue to acquire new books.

Marysue Rucci began her Simon & Schuster career at Scribner where, as an editorial assistant, she discovered the first novel by Kathy Reichs, which became a #1 New York Times bestseller and spawned an internationally bestselling series. Over the past 30 years, Marysue has edited and published hundreds of critically acclaimed and bestselling books, including Fellowship Point by Alice Elliott Dark; We Are Not Ourselves by Matthew Thomas; The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave; Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes; Good and Mad by Rebecca Traister; and Bright Young Women by Jessica Knoll.

Marysue has also published widely acclaimed and award-winning books, such as The Hive and the Honey by Paul Yoon, the winner of The Story Prize; The Need by Helen Phillips, longlisted for the National Book Award for Fiction; Smile by playwright and MacArthur Fellow Sarah Ruhl; and The House at Sugar Beach by Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Helene Cooper.

“Whether the book is fiction or nonfiction, literary or commercial (or both), Marysue brings passion and conviction to her work,” said Jonathan Karp. “Again and again, she has demonstrated that she possesses a discerning eye and an openness to new ideas and literary voices – and a propensity for choosing books that readers love.”

Among the many bestselling authors she has championed are Mona Awad, Bobbi Brown, Mary Higgins Clark, Chris Cleave, Nelson DeMille, Alice Hoffman, Wally Lamb, Lisa Lutz, Megan Miranda, Betty White, and Hunter S. Thompson.

“I have the greatest admiration for Marysue, for her books, her vision, and her singular dedication and advocacy. I am thrilled for the Scribner team and honored to be succeeded by her as Publisher of this magnificent imprint,” said Nan Graham.

“It is an extraordinary privilege and the opportunity of a lifetime to lead the storied Scribner imprint, and to take the helm from the incomparable Nan Graham,” said Marysue Rucci. “As Publisher, I will continue to publish lasting works of literary merit and to champion authors at all stages of their careers. I also look forward to working innovatively and strategically with the exceptional staff to expand Scribner’s footprint in the industry.”

Founded in 1846, Scribner is the oldest publishing imprint within Simon & Schuster. It has championed some of the greatest authors in American literary history, including Edith Wharton, Ernest Hemingway, Thomas Wolfe, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. The New York Times Book Review’s list of the “100 Best Books of the 21st Century” included six Scribner titles, four of which were edited by Nan Graham: Random Family by Adrian Nicole LeBlanc, Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward, The Flamethrowers by Rachel Kushner, Heavy by Kiese Laymon, Far from the Tree by Andrew Solomon, and The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee.
