Former Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin to Publish Book with Scribner

NEW YORK, February 10, 2025—Former Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin will publish a book with Scribner on November 4, 2025. Titled Hope in Action: A Memoir about the Courage to Lead, the book will offer a rare, personal account of the pivotal events that defined Sanna Marin’s groundbreaking career as the youngest prime minister on the world stage when taking office at the age of thirty-four. During Sanna Marin’s term (2019 – 2023), she led Finland through the COVID-19 pandemic, and her government implemented many progressive reforms addressing climate change, social justice and equality. She helped the country navigate neighboring Russia’s devastating full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and Finland’s rapid joining of NATO – the swiftest entry for any country in the alliance’s history. Marin will also share her perspective on the infamous video of her dancing with friends that ricocheted around the globe, and what the reaction says about society’s expectations of women in positions of authority. Most of all, Hope in Action will impart how Sanna Marin’s reliance on her core values steered her through a time of significant upheaval, and readers around the world will be inspired by her journey. A simultaneous audiobook will be published by Simon & Schuster Audio.

“The world is increasingly complex. Geopolitical turmoil and rivalry are challenging the rules-based international order. Climate change and the loss of biodiversity are threatening our very existence. We are also witnessing pushback on gender equality and women’s and girls’ rights,” said Sanna Marin. “Despite all of the challenges we are facing, we have to remember – there is hope if there is action. I hope that through my story, I can encourage people to take a stance and act for the change they want to see in the world. I am grateful to be able to work with such talented and warm-hearted people at Scribner.”

“Sanna Marin is an inspiration, especially to young women in America who hope to see a female president here,” said Nan Graham, Senior Vice President and Publisher of Scribner. “We are thrilled to publish this intimate story of her leadership, her dedication to education, human rights, and the environment, and her singular spirit.”

“I deeply admire Sanna’s commitment to her values of equity and sustainability. A natural and charismatic leader, Sanna fearlessly calls for reform, inspires us to affect change in our own communities, and represents an exciting model for the future,” said Kara Watson, Vice President and Executive Editor at Scribner.

Sanna Marin is the Former Prime Minister of Finland and the former leader of the Finnish Social Democratic Party. Hailed as an icon of progressive leadership, Marin made history as the longest-serving woman prime minister of Finland, leading a coalition government entirely headed by women. Following her term as Prime Minister, Marin joined the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, the London-based nonprofit led by the former British Prime Minister, where she strategically advises countries, governments and leaders on policy issues, such as good governance, technology, climate, and gender equality.

Kara Watson acquired North American and audio rights from Margaret Riley King and Laura Bonner of WME.
