NEW YORK and DELRAN, NEW JERSEY, June 16 — Simon & Schuster today announced the completion and go-live of an ambitious solar installation project at the publishing company’s Riverside Distribution facility in Delran, New Jersey. The installation, by EnterSolar, a leading commercial solar developer, will consist of 5,256 panels with nominal power of 2 megawatt and is expected to generate 2.2 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year, at significant savings for the company, and to match nearly one-third of the facility’s electricity needs.
In addition, Simon & Schuster will offset 690 metric tons of carbon per year from our Scope 2 carbon emissions, equivalent to that of 900 acres of forest according to estimates provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“At our distribution center we have always endeavored to reduce our energy consumption through the use of motion sensitive lighting, regenerative fork lifts, and other sophisticated energy management tools,” said Ramon Gonzalez, Director, Facilities, Simon & Schuster. “We are proud to have brought this project to completion and thrilled for the opportunity to generate eco-friendly, renewable energy that will significantly reduce our impact on the environment and contribute to a greater resilience of our warehouse operations from grid outages.”
“We are delighted to have worked with Simon & Schuster on this important project,” said Audrey Vinant-Tang, Manager, Global Sourcing, ViacomCBS. “The Riverside facility has for years been a linchpin of Simon & Schuster’s distribution operations, and serves as a natural home for our largest solar installation to date. This project demonstrates that doing the right thing for the environment and for our business is attainable, by generating substantial cost reductions under a power purchase agreement, while also reducing our carbon footprint.”
Installation work on the project began in August 2019.
