Andrews McMeel Publishing and Simon & Schuster Canada Announce a Two-Book Deal with Rupi Kaur, Author of International Bestseller milk and honey

KANSAS CITY, MO/TORONTO,ON (October 11, 2016) – Andrews McMeel Publishing (AMP) and Simon & Schuster Canada (S&S Canada) have entered into an agreement with Rupi Kaur, author of the literary phenomenon and international bestseller milk and honey, for World English rights to publish Kaur’s next two books, announced Kirsty Melville, AMP publisher and president, and Nita Pronovost, S&S Canada vice president and editorial director. The first book of poetry in the two-book deal, as yet untitled, is set for publication in the fall of 2017. Rupi’s distinctive poetry, prose and artwork will illuminate both publications, which will be designed by Rupi herself with her keen eye for elegance and simplicity.  AMP will publish in the United States, and Simon & Schuster will publish in Canada.  Simultaneous editions will be published by Simon & Schuster in the UK, India and Australia.

“We could not be more thrilled to continue our relationship with Rupi and to bring her transformative poetry and prose to the world via two new publications,” said Melville. “It is particularly exciting to look forward to the future today, as we recently celebrated the first anniversary of the publication of milk and honey (October 6), which now has more than one million copies in print.”

“We are delighted to be on this journey with Rupi and the AMP team,” said Pronovost. “Rupi connects with her audience in a visceral, intuitive way, proving to a new generation that words are potent.  The fact that Rupi is a young Canadian makes us especially proud to be working with her.”

Rupi’s unyielding, powerful words propelled milk and honey to the New York Times Best Seller list, where it remains today after twenty-five consecutive weeks. It is also a longtime Globe and Mail bestseller. Her message of hope and healing, individual empowerment and feminism resonates with her passionate audience.  A breakout phenomenon that defies classification, milk and honey, edited by Patty Rice of AMP, is internationally renowned. It has amassed enormous global sales in the UK, India, Australia and New Zealand, and foreign rights have been sold to China, Korea, Italy, Spain and Germany.

The deal was brokered by Suzanne Brandreth of The Cooke Agency.
